Divides: Artist Talk by Rhett Eala
September 15, 2010 - 06:00 pm to 08:00 pm
Divides Artist Talk by Rhett Eala
September 15, Wednesday
6-8pm

Silverlens Gallery invites you to an Artist Talk by renowned fashion designer Rhett Eala on September 15, Wednesday at 6pm.

This month, Eala celebrates his 20th year in fashion with a different kind of show at Silverlens. Entitled Divides, Eala's show explores another medium of his creative expression, painting - something he has done on and off all his life.

Just like how he did it with the successful Collezione clothing brand, Eala explores his fascination with the iconic Philippine map, albeit this time through monochromatic paintings. Drawn to the unique shape of the Philippine archipelago, Eala reinvents how the map is viewed and displayed.

Divides is a series of white maps painted on a white background; their black versions; and their red versions. "When you have images painted in the same hue you tend to look closer at the images", Eala explains.

On the 15th, see Eala's re-interpretation of the Philippine map and get to know how Divides came to be. He invites us all to take a different look at something so familiar.

This event is free of charge. RSVP call 8160044 or email manage@silverlensphoto.com

Divides by Rhett Eala runs simultaneously with An Hour in a Glass Balloon by Chati Coronel at SLab, and Contra-Affair by Dina Gadia at 20SQUARE.

For inquiries, contact Silverlens Gallery at 2/F YMC Bldg. II, 2320 Pasong Tamo Ext., Makati, 816-0044, 0917-5874011, or manage@silverlensphoto.com.

Gallery hours are Monday to Friday 10am-7pm and Saturdays 1-6pm.

An Hour In A Glass Balloon Film Screening + Artist Talk
September 18, 2010 - 03:00 pm to 05:00 pm
An Hour In A Glass Balloon Film Screening + Artist Talk
September 18, Saturday
3-5pm

You are invited to a special behind-the-scenes peek at Chati Coronel's An Hour in a Glass Balloon, her first painting show in the Philippines after many years living in the States. Currently showing at SLab, her work reveals a magical world that leaps off the canvas and projects into the individual. She paints the softness of the feminine form and the boldness of a woman's sensuality - contradictions that are not necessarily in conflict with one another.

On Saturday, September 18, get a chance to see a series of short movies that document Coronel's journey, which started from an idea floating in her head. Made by her husband, Edber Mamisao, the series entitled Postcards from Infinity: Eight Moving Portraits from the Glass Balloon, lets us in on the woman behind it all, her process and her work.

Coronel will also be giving a short artist talk to complement the film screening.

This event is free of charge. RSVP call 8160044 or email manage@silverlensphoto.com
