11th MUSIKAHAN SA TAGUM FESTIVAL 2012
February 21 - 04:00 pm to 26, 2012 - 12:00 am
WELCOME TO THE MUSIKAHAN SA TAGUM FESTIVAL 2012: A Decade of Harvest, A Celebration of Creativity.

Once Again, on February 21 to 26, 2012, the streets of the City of Tagum, the music city in the south, come alive with festival colors, marching artists and wild cheering corps. It's enough to keep both locals and tourists singing and dancing to the beat of music, and more than enough to captivate any music-lover's heart.

After a decade of successful annual staging, the Musikahan Sa Tagum Festival in 2012 banners the theme: Harvest of Creativity, Celebrating Global Harmony."

Participated by thousands of revelers, the festival opening salvo in the Davao Region features the region's best solo players and musical ensembles --- marching brass bands, choral groups, rondalla artists (traditional ensemble of plucked string instruments), drum-bugle and lyre corps players, young musicians specializing wind, percussion and string instruments, and many more. Adding prestige to the festival is the participation of acclaimed guest artists from othe rparts of the country and the rest of the world. Indeed, the portals of the City are open to the participation of guest performing music artists from varioues ASEAN member nations.

Musikahan Sa Tagum Festival 2012 strives to democratized the people's access to art and culture through the regularized Music Outreach performances in communities, public places, special homes and rehabilitation centers. Thus, Tagum City prides itself, not just as one of the country's top 10 fastest urban centers, but also one of the most culture-sensitive urban centers in the south where art takes center-stage in local governance.

The UNESCO had conferred the Honourable Mention of the King Sejong International Literacy Prize to the City of Tagum's Literacy Coordinating Council for its "Peace Management, Literacy and Continuing Education through Night Market" program. The City received the citation in official awarding rites in India last September 8, 2011 and the UNESCO award came after the city was named to the Hall of Fame in Literacy during the National Literacy Awards and Conference in Manila.
